What is Myotherapy?

 

Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and pain management of muscular pain and dysfunction. The Myotherapists’ aim is to restore the integrity of the muscular system. On your consultation, your Myotherapist will start by asking you about your problem.



They will then conduct a number of tests including, but not limited to:

• Full postural analysis
• Range of motion testing
• Special orthopedic tests
• Palpation of muscles, joints and ligaments.






 

What does Myotherapy treatment involve?



Myotherapists have undergone additional training in order to detect and treat the CAUSE of your problems. In addition to massage techniques, Myotherapists also use a variety of therapies including:



• Corrective exercise prescription
• Dry needling
• Muscle energy techniques (MET)
• Muscle stretching
• Pain management
• Passive stretching
• Heat and Cold application
• TENS
• Advice on daily living activities
• Cupping
• Manual soft tissue therapies







After they have arrived at a physical diagnosis, your Myotherapist will then administer the appropriate treatment modality.





 

How will Myotherapy benefit you?



A thorough assessment means the CAUSE of the problem can be located and corrected, thereby reducing your symptoms and preventing recurrences.

A common condition treated by Myotherapists is trigger points. Trigger points are areas of tight muscle fibres. They can cause local or referred pain and can be caused by injury, emotional stress, physical stress or disease. Elimination of trigger points through Myotherapy can help reduce chronic and acute pain.
